The religious tradition
A strong Christian tradition in our area is clear, as it is the Seat of the Diocese of Petra and as seen in the large number of churches and monasteries.
The Cathedral of the Virgin Mary began to be built in 1888 and was inaugurated in 1927. The exhibition contains the original architectural plan of the church, which was later altered, and a photograph of the completion of the church in 1927. The churches of the Holy Trinity, the Assumption and St Basil, do not exist today, as they were demolished due to construction issues.
These temples were decorated with a wood-carved iconostases and folk art paintings, much of which is exhibited in this room, as well as sacred vestments, church utensils, candles and altar and chalice covers.
